Privacy Policy — Bebetalk

Translation. The French text is the authoritative version: Français. This page exists so that you can understand it in English. This document is not legal advice.

In one sentence

Bebetalk collects nothing. Everything you write stays in your phone's memory, goes nowhere, and nobody but you has access to it — not even us.

1. Who publishes this app

Saidou Ijab Soule — Indonesia bebetalk3@gmail.com

Last updated: 2 August 2026 App version covered: 0.9

2. What the app records, and where

Bebetalk records only what you enter yourself:

What you enter Example
Your child's first name Lina
Their date of birth 18 April 2026
Feeds type, time, volume in millilitres, food written by you, approximate amount
Nappy changes time and type
Sleep start time, end time
The sounds you record the audio file, its length, the time, and the measured sound level
What you write around a sound the label you give it, your note, what settled them
Your child's words the form you write (tatapf), what you say it means, and the dates
Your settings which child is shown, the light you chose, whether the intro has been seen

All of this is written into the app's private storage, on your phone. That storage is accessible neither to other apps nor to us.

What the app does not record: no account, no email address, no password, no phone number, no location, no contacts, no photos, no advertising identifier, no device identifier.

The microphone, and exactly what it does

Since the version that adds sounds, the app asks for the Microphone permission (RECORD_AUDIO). Here is precisely what it does with it:

Audio files are kept in the app's private storage. Deleting a sound erases it and erases its file with it; there is no bin.

3. What leaves the phone

Nothing.

This is not an intention. Here is what it rests on, point by point:

The permissions you will see in the system list

Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) is the only permission the app asks you for explicitly, and the paragraph above says what it does with it. Alongside it, the app declares four so-called "normal" permissions, which never ask for your consent because they give access to no personal data:

Permission What it is for here
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE knowing whether a network exists — does not allow connecting to it
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, WAKE_LOCK, RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED internal machinery of the library that draws the home-screen widget

They come from an Android library (Jetpack Glance / WorkManager) and none of them alone allows data to be transmitted.

INTERNET is declared — the first paragraph of this section says so and gives the reason. What protects your data is therefore not the absence of that permission, but the fact that no code in the app uses it: no HTTP client, no server to reach, no account. That is verifiable by reading the code; an absent permission was no more verifiable than that.

3 bis. The files you create, which are no longer ours

The app sends no data out by itself. But it offers you three actions that do write a file outside the app — because that is their whole point:

The action What it produces
Settings → Export my data a ZIP archive of CSV files and of your audio recordings, in the clear
Settings → Create a backup a single file, encrypted with the password you choose
Settings → Create the summary a PDF of what you noted over the chosen period, in the clear

In all three cases:

The backup password is not known to us and is written nowhere. It does not leave your phone, and there is no way to recover a backup whose password has been lost — neither for you nor for us. The app tells you so before creating it.

4. Why this data is recorded

For one reason only: to give it back to you. The "since the last feed" counter, the log and your own child's averages are computed on your phone, from your entries, and exist only for you.

None of this data is used to profile, to compare, to train a model, or to improve a product.

5. How long it is kept

As long as you keep the app, and not a second longer.

There is no copy anywhere else. That is the flip side of the "everything stays on the phone" choice: nothing can be recovered after deletion, neither by you nor by us. The app tells you so before every deletion.

6. What you can do with your data

Right How
Get it back Settings → Export my data. You get a ZIP archive containing CSV files readable by any spreadsheet. Free, no account, no limit, and it will stay that way.
Correct it Every entry can be edited in the app.
Erase it Settings → the child's profile → Delete the book. Or uninstall the app. ⚠️ This does not erase the files you exported yourself — see §3 bis.
Take it elsewhere The CSV export is an open format, with no lock.
Keep it safe from a broken phone Settings → Create a backup. A file encrypted with your password, which you store wherever you like.
Print it Settings → Create the summary. A PDF of what you noted over the chosen period: the times, the volumes, the durations, each day's total. No average, no comparison, no interpretation — these are your figures, laid out. What you then do with it is your business alone.

Since nothing is transmitted to us, there is nothing to ask us for: these rights are exercised directly in the app, without writing to us and without delay.

7. Children

The app talks about a child, but its user is an adult — that is the audience declared on Google Play.

The information about the child (their name, date of birth, feeds) is entered by their parent or the person caring for them, stays on that person's phone, and is transmitted to nobody.

The app never addresses a child, offers them no content, and does not seek to know who they are.

8. What Bebetalk does not do, which concerns you too

9. Security

Data is recorded in the app's private space, isolated by Android from other installed apps. On a phone whose screen is locked, that space is encrypted by the system.

The best protection remains locking your phone. Since nothing is copied elsewhere, the security of your data is that of your device.

The encrypted backup uses AES-256-GCM, with a key derived from your password (PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256). It deliberately does not use Android's keystore: a device-bound key would make the file unreadable on the next phone — that is to say, exactly in the case where you would need it. The trade-off is stated above: a lost password loses the file.

10. If this policy changes

If a future version adds a feature that changes the above — online backup, usage statistics — this page will be updated before that version is published, and the change will be announced in the app.

What will not change: the free and permanent export, the absence of advertising, and never selling or sharing your data.
